there is a new designer in town; jonathan adler world renowned potter/designer has opened an atlanta location of his “happy chic” stores in the westend market area off of howell mill road not far from atlantic station.
i had the opportunity to visit this wonderfully colorful, funky, chic & extremely happy store last Friday after their grand opening on thursday. march 31, 2011.
jonathan adler has captured the vibe of clean simple lines not only in pottery, but furniture, lighting, tableware’s, etc. and turning up the volume with color and finishes to a modern extreme that makes a space chic, hip & happy!
jonathan was recently interviewed by “dwell” magazine and was quoted about his life and his work:
• “i was an oddity in the small new jersey farm town i grew up in, which was actually great in it’s own way. it’s important to not have access sometimes – it gives you time to think.”
• “i’m a multi-tasking freak who needs a lot going on to get anything done. my pottery studio is in the same space as my office, and its mayhem. i can finish a meeting then duck out to make a pot.”
• “i believe that adversity and negativity can be an amazing fuel towards personal success.”
staying true to his beginnings as a potter, adler keeps his craft uniquely simple yet fun and quirky with the shapes and characters he creates.
his vases and bowls are some of my favorite items in the extensive pottery collection.

jonathan’s approach to his design work is that he strongly feels the product designs should be minimal in structure taking consideration and appreciation of the simplistic shapes and forms.
on the contrary, jonathan feels that the space should explode with color, fun, and modernist design. i felt as if i had stepped back in time to the sixties and seventies when i entered the atlanta store, but it also evokes a 21st century vibe with the explosion of color and shine with his brilliant take on home design and décor.
jonathan has created some wonderful furniture pieces that scream retro-modern and incorporate beautiful designs.

jonathan has covered pretty much all the bases with his home interior products line and designs. there are exquisite table wares, accessories, pillows, wallpaper, and a large lighting collection.

it is so exciting to have jonathan adler’s “happy chic” store now open in atlanta. with this addition to the home interior design & furnishings market, shoppers now have a place that offers products that you won’t typically see in other atlanta stores.
jonathan adler stores have a wonderful “manifesto” displayed when you first walk in that tells you the philosophy of the store and of jonathan’s ideas about home & design.
please check out this new fun store! They are located at 1198 howell mill road off of i-75 south heading towards downtown atlanta.
they also can be found on the web at: www.jonathanadler.com
