green flooring design & products

ok, if you live here in the south, the first of march typically means that spring is knocking on the door! so in honor of my favorite time of the year, let’s talk about nature, flowers, green design and maybe even some green beer to celebrate st. patty’s day if you are of irish decent as i am! more blogs about all the above to follow!

for some reason lately, i have been looking at eco-friendly/green flooring products. the range of products are simply fantastic from bamboo, cork, eucalyptus, and even cement.

i know most people love hardwood floors when choosing flooring for their new house or remodel. but take a look at some of the other options that can make a beautiful green design product for home.

all of the products that you are about to see are voc’s compliant (meaning that they contain little or no volatile organic compounds), come from manufacturers that practice responsible harvesting and/ or come from quick and easily renewable sources (like bamboo and cork).

bamboo plank flooring

bamboo is a truly sustainable harvested grass that regenerates at least 8 times faster than hardwood.
Not only does bamboo mature rapidly but harvesting does not kill the plant. mature bamboo is selected for superior strength and maximum hardness.

flooring made from sustainable species is available in various thicknes, widths and profiles, much like hardwood choices. Its strength and dimensional stability compare very well with traditional wood flooring, so the same preparation that an installer would take with hardwoods should be employed with bamboo, cork, and eucalyptus. installations require the same level of skill and tools as hardwoods and are sequenced similarly.

eucalyptus plank flooring

eucalyptus has a smooth and refined grain with the depth and shimmer of an exotic wood and eucalyptus is 65% harder than white oak.

green is no longer just a color, but a way of life. It shows a collective commitment to the world by making our environment better for future generations.

these are just a few examples of many green flooring products currently available on the market.

carpet is even being made from recycled plastics and polymers.

polished concrete flooring

durable and allergen free, clean concrete offers some distinct advantages over carpeting. Unlike carpet which can trap dust mites, pet dander and other interior undesirables, polished concrete provides a smooth, low voc (volatile organic compounds), easy to clean surface. It will not dent or chip like soft materials such as hardwood floors and linoleum.
